South Fulton Quick Facts
South Fulton Police Department
The South Fulton Police Department handles law enforcement calls in the city. South Fulton is one of the newer cities in Georgia, and it has its own police force that patrols the area. Officers respond to calls, make traffic stops, and serve warrants within city limits. But the city does not run its own jail. Once someone is arrested by South Fulton police, they go to the Fulton County jail for booking and holding.
This means all booking records for South Fulton arrests are held by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office, not the city police. The arresting agency on the booking record will still show South Fulton PD, so you can tell which department made the arrest. If you need a police report rather than a booking record, you would contact the South Fulton Police Department for that.
South Fulton sits in the southern part of Fulton County. The city covers a big area and borders several other jurisdictions. Because of that, it is not always clear whether an arrest falls under South Fulton or a nearby city like East Point or Union City. Check the booking record's arresting agency field to be sure.

All South Fulton arrests get processed through the Fulton County jail. The main jail is at 901 Rice St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. You can call the jail line at (404) 613-2002 for booking info. The Fulton County inmate search tool is the fastest way to find a recent South Fulton booking. Type in the person's name or booking number, and you can see their charges, bond amount, where they are housed, next court date, and when they were booked in. The tool is free. It runs all day, every day.
The Fulton County Sheriff's inmate search page is where all South Fulton booking records can be found online.
New bookings can take a few hours to show up. Jail staff have to process each person one at a time. Busy nights and weekends may slow things down. If you do not see the record right away, try again in a few hours. You can also call (404) 613-2002 and ask if someone has been booked in.
Fulton County runs four jail sites total. The Rice Street facility handles all first bookings. After processing, an inmate may be moved to the North Annex in Alpharetta, the Marietta Annex on Marietta Blvd, or the South Annex in Union City at 6500 Watson Street. The Fulton County jail information page has details on each location, visitation rules, and contact numbers.
The jail info page from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office covers all four facilities.
The South Annex in Union City is the closest facility to South Fulton, but all first bookings still go through Rice Street. After the initial processing, the sheriff's office decides where to house each person based on charges and space.
How 72 Hour Booking Works in South Fulton
Georgia law puts time limits on how long someone can be held after arrest before seeing a judge. Under O.C.G.A. § 17-4-26, anyone arrested with a warrant must appear before a judicial officer within 72 hours. That is the basis for the term "72 hour booking." The clock starts at the time of arrest, not when the person gets to the jail.
For arrests made without a warrant, the time frame is shorter. O.C.G.A. § 17-4-62 says the hearing must happen within 48 hours. This comes up often in South Fulton when officers make on-the-spot arrests for things like traffic violations, domestic disputes, or drug possession. If the hearing does not happen on time, the arrested person can ask a judge for release.
Both rules apply at all Fulton County jail sites. Weekend arrests may cause some delay since courts typically hold first appearance sessions on Monday mornings. But the 72 hour and 48 hour windows still run from the time of arrest, even through weekends and holidays.
Public Access to South Fulton 72 Hour Booking Records
Booking records in Georgia are public. O.C.G.A. § 50-18-72 is the Georgia Open Records Act. It gives anyone the right to ask for government records, including arrest and booking data. You do not need a reason. You do not have to be related to the person. The law says the agency has three business days to respond.
O.C.G.A. § 35-1-19 covers booking photos. Under this law, a law enforcement agency cannot hand over a booking photo to someone who plans to post it on a website or in a publication that charges a fee to take the photo down. This law targets mugshot websites. You can still get booking photos through a standard open records request, but the sheriff's office will check that your request falls within the rules.
For South Fulton arrests, you might need to file two requests. Contact the South Fulton Police Department for the arrest report. Contact the Fulton County Sheriff's Office for the booking record. They are separate documents from separate agencies. The online inmate search is free to use, but certified copies may cost a small fee.
Georgia 72 Hour Booking Search Tools
If you are not sure the person is held in Fulton County, or if you need to track someone after they leave the county jail, these state tools can help. The Georgia Department of Corrections offender search covers anyone who has been sentenced to state prison. This is useful when a South Fulton arrest leads to a conviction and state sentence. The search is free and shows current facility, sentence length, and release dates.
The Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) runs the state criminal history database. You can call them at 404-244-2639 for questions about background checks or criminal records. A formal background check may require fingerprints and a fee. The GCIC handles records from all Georgia counties.
The VINE notification system lets you track an inmate after booking. You can sign up for alerts by phone, text, or email when someone's status changes. VINE covers Fulton County and most other Georgia counties. The phone line is 833-216-6670. It is free to use.
72 Hour Booking Record Restriction
Georgia allows certain arrest records to be restricted. O.C.G.A. § 35-3-37 lets a person ask for their arrest record to be restricted if the charges were dropped, they were found not guilty, or the case was never prosecuted. A restricted record will not show on most background checks, but law enforcement can still see it.
O.C.G.A. § 42-8-60 covers first offender treatment. If someone was sentenced under this law and finished all the terms, they can ask to have the record restricted. This process starts with filing a petition in the court where the case was heard. There is a fee, and a judge must approve it. Not all charges qualify. Violent felonies are generally not eligible for restriction.
If a booking record has been restricted, it may not appear on the Fulton County inmate search anymore. The online tool mostly shows current and recent bookings. For older or restricted records, you would need to go through the formal open records request process.
